A Funny Game

Utah website design is a very funny game. If you don’t know who the major players are it’s really hard to know what to charge for your services. Also, when you’re not in the upper echelon of companies it makes it incredibly difficult to secure loans from the local banks. They don’t like to take on new risk in these turbulent times, so if you don’t have a lot of start up cash on hand, it’s going to be really hard to break in to this market.

But a few years ago nothing was like it is now. Back when I started in Utah web development the whole game just seemed like it was very fair. The level playing field was really easy to see, which made it all seem like a meritocracy. Sometimes I long for those days because it seems that more and more companies dole out contracts based on who they know, as opposed to the quality of work received. This just seems fundamentally wrong to me and I hope that things change in the coming years. I would hate to have to continue working in this kind of environment, so I hope that things start to go back to the way they use to be.
